Retinol stimulates tissue reconstruction and synthesis of collagen and elastin, allowing wrinkles to smooth (including deep wrinkles, crow's feet and worry lines), and contributing to an increased skin elasticity and firmness. It constitutes a barrier against the formation of collagen and elastase, which are responsible for the destruction of collagen and elastin.

- in the connective tissue it influences the formation of collagen and elastin fibers,

- in the papillary layer of the dermis it stimulates the formation of new blood vessels, therefore the skin is better supplied with blood, nourished, firm and elastic
- in the epidermal layer it reinforces its barrier function and reduces water loss (TEWL) - the skin becomes smooth, firm, resilient and flexible.

Aging of skin is a natural consequence of reducing biological activity of cells and slowing of regeneration processes. It is responsible for two processes: genetic and environmental (strictly related to the effects of free radicals). The first symptom of aging is dryness caused by the loss of ability to bind water and retain it in the epidermis. Then the skin and the subcutaneous layer become thinner. The papillary layer of the dermis is flattened. However, the horny layer expands. One of the most serious consequences of this process is the loss of elastin and collagen fibers. Along with it we deal with a decline in the activity of sebaceous and sweat glands. As a result, defects are formed in the hydro-lipid coat of the skin. TEWL also increases (transepidermal water loss). Firmness, elasticity and springiness decrease. Wrinkles appear on the face which then turn into furrows. The formation of free radicals is also the effect of: UV radiation, stress, fumes, nicotine, food with preservatives, heavy metals, and even contaminated water or medicines.
